Hurricane Andrew
Hurricane Andrew was a Category 5 hurricane that primarily affected the Southern portions of Florida, but it also caused damage to several Southern States, and The Bahamas. Hurricane Andrew struck South Florida during the morning of August 24, 1992. It was reported that the winds' velocity was up to 164 miles per hour.
What causes Hurricanes?
When it comes to forming hurricanes there are four main ingredients. The ingredients are as follows, a pre-existing storm, warmer than normal water temps, thunderstorm activity, and finally a low wind shear which is a large difference in wind speed and direction. A storm isn't considered a "hurricane" until the wind speeds exceed 74 mph. As the storm builds warm ocean air rises into the storm, which then forms an area of low pressure that causes air to push up. The air cools, forming clouds and thunderstorms. Once in the clouds the water condenses and takes the form of droplets.
